Preface

Since a few years, JAVA appears to be THE programmation language for future. As I wanted to develop applets and applications, I looked fo a JDK (Java Development Kit) on Amiga. Web searching means Aminet searching : I googled for "JAVA" key-word... I noted that Javamania also reached Amiga : I found Sun, Kaffe, Jikes... classes in lha format. I thus extract these files and, surprised, I discovered files with .TAR extension. As, at this time, I hadn't seen such files, I googled again on Aminet : I found TAR (compression and extraction) and UNTAR (extraction) tools. I tried to extract my .TAR files but it didn't work. I began to despair but then I quickly found that UNTAR software(author: Andrew Church) was shipping with its sources : this is how UNTAR V1.11 (now Untar Me Up) is born in January 2000.

- Untar Me Up 1.20 was developed in C (Gcc 2.3.95) on an AmigaOne (AmigaOS 4.0).

Installation

- Copy file called "UntarMeUp" into C: directory.

- Untar Me Up is now AmigaOS 4.0 native: it doesn't work with previous versions of AmigaOS.

Use

Untar Me Up can be launched by an Amiga Shell session.

Its syntaxe is :
UntarMeUp ~path and file name .Tar~ [destination directory]

Destination directory is optionnal : if it is not mentionned, extraction will occur in default directory.

These are some examples :
Untar Work:kaffe-0.7.1-bin.tar ram:
Untar Work:kaffe-0.7.1-bin.tar ram:T/
